This 2-hr. Bond seminar has been prepared and specifically customized for MVSHRM members and will consist of two separate programs. Each presentation will last approximately one hour, with a short break in between, and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Session 1: 2021 Employment Law Update and Outlook

Bond attorney Rob Manfredo will lead the first session and provide attendees with a comprehensive update on the developing legal issues that employers will face during 2021.

Among other topics, Rob will cover impending and potential changes relating to:

  • Increased regulatory enforcement and penalties from OSHA, DOL, and other workplace agencies;
  • Important handbook policy updates;
  • Union organizing;
  • Wage and hour enhancements for employees;
  • Closer scrutiny of independent contractor and joint employment status; and
  • Expanded EEO and anti-discrimination laws and litigation.

Session 2: Marijuana Legalization & Its Impact for New York Employers

Bond lawyer Andy Bobrek will lead the second session, discussing the legalization of recreational marijuana usage in New York, as well as new employee protections based on their lawful off-duty use of marijuana.

We expect this law to have a substantial impact for New York employers in the months and years ahead. Among other topics, Andy’s presentation will cover:

  • What, if anything, should employers do now?
  • What is (or will be) legal marijuana usage?
  • What can employers still do to maintain a safe workplace?
  • What about current “no smoking” and drug testing policies?
  • What if an employee uses marijuana for medicinal reasons?

This program will help HR professionals stay ahead of the curve and to position their organizations for compliance and safe operations moving forward.
