Good Morning, Looking for advice on how others are dealing with unemployment fraud issues. Most states are issuing a lot of guidance and hotlines, but New York is not one of them!

It is very frustrating - we keep hearing that NYS is so behind. We continually dispute claims and receive multiple fraudulent claims.

Hello, we are also experiencing a lot of fraud. I am filing a dispute each time we receive a notice of potential charges, and I am filing a claim online on behalf of the employee through the NYS DOL. Additionally, I was advised to have the employee file a report with their local police Department. It's not clear how the fraud is being carried out, however we've verified internally and with our payroll provider that we have not had a data breach.

We have seen quite a bit of unemployment fraud here at MVCC. Here is a simple letter SUNY provided for our use. Our carrier reports the claim as fraudulent for us, and we provide the employee with additional instructions in the letter. You should be able to remove any SUNY references and be able to use as is. See below. I hope that helps! Thanks, Crystal Marceau Executive Director of Human Resources Mohawk Valley Community College Re: NY Department of Labor Unemployment Insurance Fraud Dear [Employee], Multiple federal and state agencies are reporting an increase in fraudulent unemployment claims exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically of public sector employees. Within the State University of New York (SUNY) system, the New York State Department of Labor (DOL) is investigating several cases where unemployment claims appear to have been fraudulently submitted by unknown individuals posing as university employees. We have obtained information from DOL indicating that you have filed an application for unemployment insurance benefits. A copy of the notice received by SUNY Campus is attached hereto for your reference. If you did not submit an application for unemployment insurance benefits you should take immediate action to report this issue and protect your person information. Victims of unemployment benefits fraud should immediately report this issue to the NYS Department of Labor Unemployment Insurance Program, NYS Department of Labor, Office of Special Investigations, Bldg 12 - Room 200, W.
