COVID Travel Advisories

Good Afternoon: Does anyone have a process in place for if an essential worker who is a resident of NY travels out of state to a State that the Governor has issued a Travel Advisory for? What happens upon their return to the State and what are you requiring as far as quarantine or testing? Thanks much!

We are based out of NY and have employees that work in 23 different states and 2 countries. We sent out an email to all staff outlining our expectations with testing, etc. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to email me at [email protected]

When any of our employees travel they must be tested upon there return. Because they are essential, they can return to work if they do not have any symptoms, must wear a mask at all time. If negative, they are tested again in 4 days, if positive they are out until they are fever free with any medication for 72 hours.

If the employer is deemed essential, there are a different set of guidelines that should be followed. Issued by the NYS Dept of Health on June 24th. It's safest to follow the state's guidelines verses making your own. Good luck! See link below. https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2020/06/interimguidance_traveladvisory.pdf

We do not have a process in place since we are not an essential business but I have been attending weekly webinars presented by Bond, Schoeneck and King. This specific topic was addressed to some degree in this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNDOLqVS_uQ&feature=youtu.be

I wanted to share this information from David Lyman, our Risk Manager at Gilroy Kernan & Gilory, who has been focused on all of this information and updates as we are learn daily, please highlights below: • Oneida County is following the State protocols regarding travel from restricted states – 14 day quarantine no exceptions. • Some local employers are adopting the following regarding out of state travel for employees conducting work activities is – they must quarantine for 5 days, receive a negative COVID test and HR approval before returning back to the building on the 6th day. • State is requiring – If a family member within the household tests positive for the virus and the remaining members test negative – those that tested negative are required to quarantine 14 days. The quarantine takes precedence over a negative test.
