Ursula Flagg Awards for Human Resource Excellence

The Eighth Annual Ursula Flagg Awards for Human Resource Excellence was held on October 20, 2009. This premier event continued the tradition of supporting the efforts and achievements of Human Resource professionals and businesses throughout the Mohawk Valley who strive to develop excellence in their work environments and practices. 

This year’s honorees were Steven L. Giuffrida, Vice President, Human Resource Manager, Individual category and JAY-K Independent Lumber Corp. in the best practice area of Workforce Planning and Employment. They both have demonstrated exceptional achievements in human resource programs and practice areas.

Thank you again to all who supported this event from the volunteers, judges, sponsors and participants. The Ursula Flagg Awards for Human Resource Excellence Event could not be successful without your support! Finally, I think all in attendance would agree Jeff Mangrum and SST Communications presented a unique and informative theater based presentation on "Culture Diversity in the Workplace".

Ursula Flagg Awards for Human Resource Excellence

 

Mohawk Valley Society for Human Resource Management and the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce are excited to announce that the presentation at this year’s annual Ursula Flagg Awards for Human Resource Excellence on October 20, 2009 will be:“Synergy from Others: Cultural Diversity in the Workplace “.

Jeff Mangrum and SST Communications will deliver a fascinating, informative and entertaining theatre-based program in their signature, innovative format; combining comedic and dramatic scenes laced together with state-of-the-art informative material.  Attendees will gather and implement the tools they need to become “Inclusion Heroes” and model the most effective behaviors conducive to creating an Inclusive work environment. SST’s professional actor/presenters engage the minds and hearts of their audiences by bringing this poignant literature to life; not only discussing the issues, but also demonstrating them. 

For those of you unfamiliar with this event, Ursula Flagg was a woman who demonstrated quality human resources practices and sound employee relations within our area's workplaces.  Join us on October 20, 2009 at the Radisson Hotel when we recognize and honor an individual and organizations in our area that carry on the leadership, dedication and spirit to the human resource field as Ursula Flagg did. About Ursula Flagg

The Award for Human Resource Excellence is given in memory of Ursula Flagg who passed away in March of 2001.

 Ursula held the position of Human Resources Officer at the Savings Bank of Utica where she had been employed for 35 years.

 During her career at SBU, Ursula held various positions of leadership and responsibility. On July 15, 1981, Ursula was promoted to Personnel Officer and devoted her career to the Human Resource profession. Ursula attended Business College in Nuremberg, Germany. She was a graduate of The American Institute of Banking from which she won The Savings Bank of Utica Cup, the Theodore Rokahr Cup and the Charles W. Hall Cup, all for excellence in scholarship. She later served as President for that institute.

 Ursula was highly committed to both professional and charitable organizations throughout the community. Her expertise in the highly regulated area of employee benefits was known and sought after by her colleagues within the community, state and national levels of the human resource profession. She was a Society for Human Resource Management member and certified Senior Professional in Human Resource Management (SPHR) among her many other professional and community committments. Ursula was a true example of excellence in both her professional and personal life.

The Seventh Annual Ursula Flagg Awards for Human Resource Excellence, held on October 21, 2008 once again was an outstanding event. The overwhelming support for this event from individuals and business through out Mohawk Valley continues to makes this a highly successful event

Rice, individual category, Black Rivers Systems , ECR International, and Hyosung USA, Inc. in the organizational categories reflects the qualities this event strives to acknowledge; Individuals and business that exhibit exceptional achievements in human resource programs and practice areas.

The Ursula Flagg Awards for Human Resource Excellence Event could not be successful without your support! Lastly, a thank you to Chris Novak, whose presentation on “Conquering Adversity” certainly left an lasting impact on everyone that attended.
