July 27: It's time to plan for the MVSHRM Annual Golf Outing on July 27th at Pine Hills Golf Course.  All levels of play are encouraged to participate, and, for those who don't play the greens, join us for a barbecue steak dinner post-game . This event has always been a great way to recharge with your fellow members and friends in the great outdoors. This year, MVSHRM is offering corporate tee box sponsorships for their scholarship fund and, as usual, prizes for various levels will be granted to the lucky winners.  Registration deadline is July 16th . June 15th: Mohawk Valley Society for Human Resource Management and the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce cordially invites you to the Lynda Ford Award for Lifetime Achievement in Human Resources. This event will take place on June 15, 2010 at the Radisson Hotel, Utica, NY. 

If you are unfamiliar with this event, the award is given in memory of Lynda Ford who passed away in January of 2007.  Lynda Ford, SPHR served as President of MVSHRM for two years and was a long-time member of the organization.  In addition to her dedicated service to MVSHRM and other volunteer organizations, she was President of the Ford Group.  She was a well respected professional, community leader and HR advocate.  Lynda was the author of "Transform Your Workplace" which was published by McGraw-Hill in English, Spanish and Chinese.  Lynda’s career was the embodiment of a “lifetime achievement in Human Resources."  Please join us in honoring an individual that reflects the same attributes and commitment to the Human Resource Profession as Lynda Ford did. April 13th: MVSHRM presents "Legal Implications on the Use of Social Networking Sites by Applicants and Employees" presented by Michael J. Sciotti, Esq. of Hancock & Estabrook, LLP.

March 16th:  MVSHRM presents "Workman's Compensation".
Speaker Mike Cronin of Crown Risk Management, LLC will provide an overview of the significant changes in the New York State Worker’s Compensation regulations that occurred in 2007 outlining how they will impact benefits and claim costs. Other issues discussed will be Workers Compensation Post Injury Claim Management, Employer’s rights, Worker’s rights, Worker’s Comp and how it interacts with FMLA, Employer’s Worker’s Comp and Independent contractors/temps, along with some examples of the different types of incidents that lead to injury or illness that can lead to Worker’s Comp cases. This will be a breakfast meeting at the Holiday Inn.  February 16th: MVSHRM presents Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Turns up the Enforcement Heat:  What to do if OSHA comes to the door. Speakers Ronald Williams, Assistant Area Director of the Syracuse OSHA Office and David W. Lyman, Risk Manager, Gilroy, Kernan & Gilroy will offer an overview of which types of organizations  need to be concerned with OSHA.
